The future of the Town of Mulgrave lies in the connected future of the wider Strait of Canso region! The municipal bodies found within the Strait of Canso Region stem from an earlier age when distance was measured time spent in sailing along the coast and in time spent on horseback and in horse and ox driven carts moving along muddy trailways. The automobile and decent roads, electricity and modern telecommunications and the internet and communication access that this allows makes the distances for suitable governance by local authorities much broader today than when the local municipalities were formed and evolved into their present form.

The towns of Mulgrave, Canso, Port Hawkesbury and Antigonish and the five rural municipalities of the Quad Counties were all formed and shaped in an earlier age. The time for local separation is past! Strength lies in the assets of the region! The Strait of Canso, the natural resources on shore and off, the port facilities, the rail connections and highways, the educational frame work and the people of the region who have been shaped by living where they do!

Please let go of the trappings of the past of protecting your home town or your county. The strength and future for the community of Mulgrave lies in the strength and future of a Strait of Canso regional Municipality! One can e-mail from Cheticamp to Sherbrooke faster as one can walk from the Mulgrave Post Office to the NSLC store down the street.

Honour your past and embrace the future!! If HRM, CBRM, and QRM can function, so can the SCRM!! Don't forget your past. Honour it as one should. Build on your assets and for your future as a region!!! Then maybe your sons and your daughters who you have lost to economic exile can return to the region they call home!
